The surge protection unit is connected directly to one or two antiparallel thyristors, across which the voltage is monitored.
If this voltage exceeds a defined value (peak value), the thyristor is triggered to reduce this voltage. In addition, the thyristor can also be triggered below this overvoltage threshold using an external 24 VDC control signal, which allows for easy control of the thyristor. This makes it particularly suitable for protecting the excitation device against overvoltage.
Features
- Operating voltage: 24 V DC
- Thyristor forced ignition when a defined peak value between 600 V and 1800 V is exceeded in increments of 100 V
- Simple thyristor control below the peak value via external control signal
- Display of the most important operating information via light-emitting diodes
Application
- Controlled excitation of the synchronous machine's excitation circuit through targeted thyristor control
- Overvoltage protection for compound transformers
