With Lloyd’s Register’s successful type approval of the TIBS XD3M generator, a significant milestone has been reached in the advancement of maritime energy technology.
The certification confirms that the third generation of generator sets is now also approved for use on ships. This completes the portfolio of the current system generation and covers a wide range of applications in maritime power supply.
Type testing by an internationally recognized classification society is considered decisive proof of quality, safety, and reliability under demanding operating conditions. Especially in the shipping industry, where systems are exposed to extreme environmental influences such as vibration, humidity, and temperature fluctuations, this certification is an essential criterion for operational use.
In parallel with the successful testing, the market launch has already begun: The first ships are currently being equipped with the new system. We offer operators a modernization strategy to gradually replace older generations of equipment. The goal is to sustainably improve the efficiency, operational safety, and ease of maintenance of the onboard power supply.

The TIBS XD3M is a compact excitation unit designed to excite brushless synchronous generators for marine applications. It combines an integrated power section with high control accuracy (0.25%) and is designed for a wide power range.
The unit supports multiple operating modes, including voltage, reactive power, and excitation current control, with seamless switching. Comprehensive protection and monitoring functions, as well as flexible control options, ensure stable and safe operation on board.
