EMSR planning for the new Saloppe OST water intake facility

August 2025

As part of the expansion of semiconductor production in northern Dresden, measures are needed to build and reinforce the external infrastructure for the industrial water supply. The supply is to be provided via the Saloppe OST water intake. This will rely on the use of bank seepage from the Elbe River as well as groundwater resources from the area of the former Saloppe water treatment plant.

The planned expansion of the semiconductor site places increased demands on the security of supply for industrial process media. These include, in particular, a reliable industrial water supply, high-performance pumping systems, a secure energy supply, and integrated process control technology. The Saloppe OST water intake facility is a central component of this infrastructure.

We were commissioned to handle the EMSR planning for service phases 2 through 8 in accordance with HOAI.

The scope of planning includes, among other things:

  • Central power supply for the facility
  • Planning of switchgear and control cabinets
  • Cathodic corrosion protection
  • EMSR equipment for the pump rooms
  • Grounding systems and equipotential bonding
  • Lightning protection systems
  • Automation technology

A key component of the planning is the integration of the facility into SachsenEnergie’s existing process control system.

Key Technical Aspects of EMSR Planning

Special requirements apply in the following cases:

  • Integration of pumping stations
  • Control of pumping processes
  • Remote monitoring
  • Redundant power supply
  • Low-voltage switchgear
  • Control architecture
  • Cathodic protection for pipelines
  • Monitoring systems
