Contract for the design and preliminary planning of the renovation and expansion of the medium-voltage switchgear at the Tettau Water Treatment Plant
January 2021
Due to its strategic importance for the water supply, the Tettau Water Treatment Plant, operated by the Lausitz Water Association (WAL), is to be equipped with an alternative power supply that is self-sufficient and sufficient in the event of a power outage.
To this end, the Lausitz Water Association (WAL) has planned the following investments for the coming year:
- Supply and installation of a 1.2-megawatt-peak PV system
- Supply and installation of two energy storage units, each with a capacity of 230 kW
- Delivery and installation of control and regulation components for peak load management, battery management, etc.
E&A has been commissioned to develop a basic concept for the standard-compliant integration of the above-mentioned components into the water utility’s medium-voltage power grid.
Our scope of work includes:
- Development of an electrical network model for the water treatment plant for all expansion scenarios
- Creation of a single-line diagram for all expansion scenarios
- Load flow calculation, short-circuit current calculation, analysis of motor starting behavior, and harmonic analysis in all operating modes
- Analysis and description of the necessary primary and secondary technical measures
- Considerations regarding island management
- Technical coordination and clarification of interfaces with the PV system and energy storage
- Technical coordination and clarification of interfaces with the local distribution network operator (DNO)
- Preparation of an explanatory report
- Cost estimate
In this project, E&A ensures the standards-compliant and reliable integration of all systems through detailed grid analyses, simulations, and technical evaluations. This results in a comprehensive supply concept that guarantees both grid stability and maximum supply reliability.
