The grid calculation program "Power Factory" has been significantly expanded

In 2020, E&A significantly expanded its capabilities in the planning and analysis of electrical power grids.
This applies to public power grids as well as to industrial and utility grids for infrastructure facilities. In the future, we will be able to offer our customers the following additional calculation and analysis methods:
Harmonic analysis enables an assessment of power quality and provides insights into the load on electrical equipment such as transformers, cables, and switchgear. These considerations are necessary, for example, when constructing new facilities with inverter-driven drives or power generation systems (PV systems, wind farms, etc.).
If the harmonic analysis reveals that the harmonics exceed the standard-permitted limits, the use of filters to reduce harmonics is essential. Determining the resonance points in the network is one of the requirements for filter sizing. After analyzing the network impedance in the frequency response, the required filter for harmonic reduction can be sized.
The EMT (electromagnetic transients) simulation allows the effects of transient switching operations on the power grid to be simulated. This tool enables the precise analysis and evaluation of the switching on and off of transformers, generators, or capacitor banks.
The RMS simulation allows users to model a power grid with controlled energy injections (CHP plants, wind farms, photovoltaic systems), including controllers, and to test its stability under all possible conditions. A practical example is the transition of an industrial power grid from grid-connected operation to island operation, with power supplied by an emergency power generator. In this context, the grid’s response to connections or faults and the resulting control deviation can be analyzed. Simulating a combined heat and power plant’s response to a short-circuit event allowed for conclusions regarding electrical parameters at the generator, as well as the evaluation of control behavior and the definition of operating limits.
